Volunteers

Hospice of Las Vegas volunteers are an integral part of the Hospice team. Volunteers assist our Hospice staff in providing the support needed to ensure the highest quality of life possible for people living with a life limiting illness.

In Hospice, Volunteers are the heart of our work. Without them, we could not provide the many facets of physical, social, psychological, and spiritual care that makes Hospice so special.

Who Can Volunteer?

Anyone 18 years or older with a genuine desire to help and time to share with others is encouraged to volunteer. You may devote as much time as you choose. There is no minimum requirement.

What Do Volunteers Do?

As volunteers, you will be given a choice as to the capacity in which you would like to help. Volunteers are utilized in various ways. Typical volunteer duties can include:

  • Office and clerical support in our administrative office
  • Providing emotional support and companionship to our patients
  • Providing time for the caregiver to take care of his/herself
  • Sharing a special talent or skill
  • Community Education

How Do I Become A Volunteer?

Prior to volunteering, Hospice of Las Vegas requires a pre-training interview and the completion of a training program that is designed to be informative and well worth your time. Training is free. Training topics include:

  • Philosophy of hospice care
  • Physical, emotional, social, and spiritual issues that affect people with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones
  • The dying process
  • Effective Communication when speaking with patients and family members.
  • Basic information about grief and bereavement.

Volunteers also receive training and ongoing educational classes throughout the year to ensure that they feel comfortable with performing their volunteer duties.
